Evaluating recent methods to overcome spatial confounding

چکیده
Abstract The concept of spatial confounding is closely connected to regression, although no general definition has been established. A generally accepted idea in regression models the change fixed effects estimates that may occur when spatially correlated random collinear with covariate are included model. Different methods have proposed alleviate linear models, but it not clear if they provide correct estimates. In this article, we consider some those proposals such as restricted spatial+ model, and transformed Gaussian Markov fields. objective determine which one provides best effects. Dowry death data Uttar Pradesh 2001, stomach cancer incidence Slovenia period 1995–2001 lip Scotland between years 1975–1980 analyzed. Several simulation studies conducted evaluate performance different scenarios confounding. Results reflect method seems closest true value standard errors could be inflated.

BACKGROUND Community hospital placement is dictated by a diverse set of geographical factors and historical contingency. In the summer of 2004, a multi-organizational committee headed by the State of Michigan's Department of Community Health approached the authors of this paper with questions about how spatial analyses might be employed to develop a revised community hospital approval procedure...
متن کاملRegression modelling and other methods to control confounding.
Received 22 November 2004 _________________________ C onfounding is a major concern in causal studies because it results in biased estimation of exposure effects. In the extreme, this can mean that a causal effect is suggested where none exists, or that a true effect is hidden. Typically, confounding occurs when there are differences between the exposed and unexposed groups in respect of indepe...
متن کاملControlling for socioeconomic confounding using regression methods.
STUDY OBJECTIVE To describe the advantages of using Poisson regression methods as an alternative to standardisation when computing expected numbers of disease occurrences adjusted for possible confounding factors. The problem of assessing the adequacy of model fit when the expectations are small is addressed by analytical calculations and by simulation. The method is illustrated with data from ...
